Hezy Motors Director Hazel Mafu to Know Bail Fate on August 3 in Alleged Vehicle Import Fraud Case**

HARARE – Hezy Motors Logistics director Hazel Silibaziso Mafu will have to wait until next week to learn whether she will be released on bail after a Harare magistrate reserved judgment in her application.

Regional Magistrate Jesse Kufa postponed the ruling to 3 August 2026 after hearing submissions from both the prosecution and the defence during bail proceedings. The hearing concluded on 29 July following the cross-examination of the investigating officer.

Mafu, 35, is facing 79 counts of fraud linked to an alleged vehicle import scheme in which clients reportedly paid for vehicles that were never delivered.

According to the State, Mafu allegedly misrepresented her ability to source and import motor vehicles, inducing customers to pay substantial sums of money despite allegedly lacking both the intention and capacity to fulfil the orders.

Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that the alleged scheme resulted in losses totaling US$624,958.96 and ZiG1,275,878.

The prosecution opposed bail, arguing that Mafu presents a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses if released. The State submitted that she is acquainted with many of the complainants and has access to their personal contact information, raising concerns about possible witness interference.

Following the completion of submissions by both parties, Magistrate Kufa reserved judgment until 3 August, when the court will decide whether Mafu should remain in custody or be granted bail pending trial.

The outcome of the bail application will not determine the criminal case itself, which is expected to proceed through the courts as investigations and prosecution continue.
