Manchester United have awarded a first-year scholarship to Zimbabwean-born football prospect Camron Mpofu, marking another significant step in the teenager’s rapidly progressing career.

The 16-year-old forward has been included in the club’s 2026/27 academy scholarship intake, which was officially unveiled on Tuesday. Mpofu joins 14 other young players selected for the prestigious programme as the Premier League giants continue investing in emerging talent.

Mpofu moved to United from Reading FC in 2024 and has since impressed academy coaches with his performances and development. His new scholarship deal places him firmly on the pathway towards a professional contract once he becomes eligible.

Manchester United’s latest intake also includes several high-profile academy prospects, among them Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick, highlighting the club’s continued commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.

Born in England to a Zimbabwean father and a Scottish mother, Mpofu has already represented Scotland at youth level. However, he remains eligible to play for Zimbabwe through his father’s heritage.

That eligibility could eventually bring the promising attacker into consideration for Zimbabwe’s senior national team should his development continue on its current trajectory.

For Zimbabwean football supporters, Mpofu’s scholarship at Manchester United represents another encouraging sign of local talent making its mark on one of the world’s biggest football stages.
