Highlanders FC have suspended Chief Executive Officer Denzil Mkandla over alleged financial irregularities, as tensions continue to rise within the club’s leadership.
The decision was reached during a crisis meeting held on Tuesday night, with sources indicating that the allegations stem from the club’s pre-season camp in Botswana, where service providers are believed to have issued inflated invoices. Mkandla, who was appointed in August last year, is expected to submit a formal response addressing the claims.
The development has exposed growing divisions within the executive, with some insiders suggesting the CEO may be bearing the blame for broader administrative challenges affecting the club.
Meanwhile, head coach Benjani Mwaruwari has openly criticised the administration, citing concerns over alleged insubordination and a lack of institutional support.
On the pitch, the situation remains equally concerning. Following a difficult 2025 season in which the team narrowly avoided relegation, Highlanders have yet to register a victory this campaign, drawing all six of their matches so far.
