JOHANNESBURG – Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has been arrested in South Africa following a shooting incident in Hyde Park, northern Johannesburg, early Thursday morning.

According to South African police, Mugabe was taken into custody after allegedly shooting a security guard during an altercation at a luxury residential property. The victim was rushed to hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed that a second suspect has also been detained. Police say the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has been seized as part of the investigation.

Gauteng police spokespersons told South African Broadcasting Corporation that officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Hyde Park residence shortly after dawn. Upon arrival, they found the injured guard at the scene and immediately launched an investigation.

Mugabe is expected to appear in a Johannesburg magistrate’s court on charges that could include attempted murder, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

This is a developing story. More details will follow as they become available.
