Gen Chiwenga Inspires Young People With Hard-Hitting Marriage Advice

By Staff Reporter
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has called on young couples to honour the sanctity of marriage, describing it as a lifelong union founded on love, faith and commitment.

He also urged families to remain united through both hardships and moments of joy.

Chiwenga made the remarks in Harare on Saturday while speaking at the wedding of his nephew, David Tafadzwa Machekabuwe, who married Ratanang Noko.

Machekabuwe is the son of the late Margaret Machekabuwe, Chiwenga’s sister, who is remembered for supporting him during his youth. She reportedly collected his belongings from Mount St Mary’s Mission after he left formal education to join the liberation struggle.Family games

Addressing guests at the ceremony, Chiwenga emphasized that marriage goes beyond a legal agreement and should be treated as a sacred covenant requiring patience, sacrifice and mutual support.

“Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity, an enduring covenant, not simply a contract.

To our newlyweds, be each other’s strength in times of weakness,” he said.
“Celebrate your joys together; comfort one another in sorrow and stand united through thick and thin, in both good times and bad.”

He advised the couple and other young people to build marriages grounded in love, trust, open communication and mutual respect. He stressed that forgiveness and small daily acts of kindness are essential to building strong family foundations.

The Vice President also encouraged couples to nurture supportive relationships within their communities and extended families, noting that healthy marriages contribute to social cohesion and national development.

Chiwenga described marriage as a journey rather than a destination, urging couples to create a lasting legacy rooted in faith and shared purpose.
