Bogus Cop and Security Agent Arrested With 120 Cobs of Dagga on Harare-Beitbridge Highway

A man impersonating a high-ranking Zimbabwe Republic Police officer and a serving state security agent have been arrested while transporting a large consignment of illegal drugs along the Harare-Beitbridge highway, authorities confirmed.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) announced the arrests on February 14, 2026, highlighting the sophisticated disguise used by the impostor and the involvement of a state security operative in drug trafficking.
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Norest Jingura and 43-year-old Alison Maredza, were intercepted near Bubi by a national crack team targeting drug peddling across the country. Jingura, the impostor, was dressed in full ZRP uniform, complete with badges denoting the rank of Assistant Inspector. Maredza is a serving member of the country’s security services.
The two were travelling in a Toyota Hilux, registration number AGP 1412, confirmed to be owned by Maredza.
During the operation, the crack team recovered 120 cobs of dagga from the vehicle. Police described the quantity as substantial, with a street value potentially running into tens of thousands of US dollars.
The involvement of a state security officer in the operation has raised serious questions about potential criminal networks within Zimbabwe’s security apparatus, prompting a wider investigation. Authorities are also probing how Jingura obtained such a realistic police uniform.
“The ZRP is now conducting comprehensive investigations to establish how Norest Jingura obtained the police uniform,” the statement said.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. The police reiterated a stern warning against drug trafficking: “No to drug peddling and trafficking.”
