By Staff Reporter
MARONDERA, Zimbabwe —Four members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces have reportedly died following a horrific road traffic accident involving a military vehicle along the Harare–Mutare Road.

The accident occurred at approximately 4pm on Friday, 5 August 2026, near the 45-kilometre peg in the vicinity of Bromley Substation.
The identities of those killed and injured are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

According to preliminary information, a yellow BAW military vehicle carrying seven people was travelling from Harare towards Mutare when the accident occurred.

The vehicle was reportedly travelling behind a bus and a lorry on a dual carriageway. The driver is said to have attempted to overtake the bus but encountered another lorry ahead.

In an apparent attempt to avoid a collision, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The military vehicle veered off the road, overturned approximately three times and came to rest on the opposite side of the road.

Three occupants died at the scene, while another military passenger was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and landed on the opposite side of the road.

The ejected passenger was subsequently struck by a bus travelling from Mutare towards Harare and later succumbed to his injuries.

The bus driver involved in the second collision reportedly fled the scene.

Three other occupants of the military vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital. Two were taken to Marondera Hospital, while another was transported to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

The military vehicle sustained extensive damage and is believed to be beyond economical repair.

Members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Marondera Traffic Section and the Criminal Investigations Department's Substantive Investigations Branch (SIB), Harare District, attended the scene.

This is a developing story. Further details will be published as they become available and are officially confirmed.
