Mai TT In Auxillia Mnangagwa Shouting Allegations
By A Correspondent-Zimbabwean comedian and social media personality Mai TT, born Felistas Murata, has been drawn into fresh controversy after a Harare businessman claimed to possess audio recordings allegedly linking her to remarks directed at First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa.
The businessman, identified as Bruno Furnitures, alleges that Mai TT and several other individuals made insulting comments about the First Lady during private conversations. He says he intends to release the recordings following a fallout with the social media star.
However, the contents of the alleged audio recordings have not yet been made public, and the allegations remain unverified. It is also unclear what may have prompted the alleged remarks or when the conversations purportedly took place.Executive Branch
The claims emerge as Mai TT once again finds herself at the centre of public attention after years of making headlines for both her entertainment career and a series of personal and legal controversies.
Mai TT rose to prominence through comedy skits on social media and became one of Zimbabwe’s most recognisable online personalities. Her private life has frequently attracted media scrutiny, particularly her highly publicised relationships and marriages. Her marriage to Tinashe Maphosa ended amid accusations and counter-accusations that played out publicly on social media and in the courts. The fallout generated significant public interest and divided opinion among her followers.
The entertainer has also faced several legal challenges over the years. In 2023, she was convicted on charges related to theft of trust property and fraud and was sentenced to prison. The case stemmed from allegations involving a US$10,000 transaction in which prosecutors claimed she misrepresented ownership of a vehicle used as security. She also faced consequences arising from an earlier community service order linked to a domestic violence matter.
However, parts of her criminal record were later overturned after the High Court set aside her conviction for theft of trust property on appeal. Separate fraud charges relating to another matter were also withdrawn after a settlement was reached with the complainant.
Despite the controversies, Mai TT has remained one of Zimbabwe’s most influential social media figures, maintaining a large following and continuing to reinvent herself through entertainment, business ventures and public appearances.Modern slavery awareness
The latest allegations involving the First Lady are likely to attract significant public interest given the political sensitivity of the claims. Neither Mai TT nor the Office of the First Lady had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
The story is developing.
