Hadebe suspended over camp code breach
by Staff reporter
Zimbabwe defender Teenage Hadebe will miss Tuesday's Mukuru 4 Nations Tournament final against Zambia after being handed a one-match suspension for breaching team camp rules.
The Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed the disciplinary action in a statement, saying the decision was taken "in line with team regulations" after Hadebe was found to have violated the national team's code of conduct.
The move follows the circulation of a video on social media showing Hadebe holding a bottle of whiskey while in camp. The footage, which quickly went viral, also showed other players present, including team captain Marvellous Nakamba, sparking backlash from fans and prompting swift intervention from the association and the Warriors' technical team.
ZIFA said Hadebe has since apologised to both the team and the association and has accepted the sanction imposed on him.
The suspension comes as a setback for Zimbabwe ahead of a crucial final, with Hadebe regarded as one of the team's most dependable defenders. His absence is expected to be felt in what is anticipated to be a competitive clash.
In its statement, ZIFA emphasised its commitment to maintaining discipline within the national setup.
The association reaffirmed its stance on "upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and accountability within the national team setup."
Zimbabwe will now head into the final without one of its key defensive figures as they seek to secure victory in the regional tournament.
