By Providence Maraneli, ZBC - POLICE in Gwanda are investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the Lushongwe area over the weekend.
In a tragic turn of events that left villagers and revellers stunned, 47-year-old Butholezwe Sibanda was allegedly shot and killed by a local businessman who was attempting to shoot a bull for slaughter.
According to reports, Dumisani Nyathi (61) had purchased a bull intended for slaughter at his butchery at Lushongwe Business Centre when the animal reportedly broke loose and charged towards him.
It is alleged that Nyathi fired a single shot aimed at the bull but missed, striking Sibanda in the chest. He died on the spot.
Acting Matabeleland South Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni, confirmed the case and said investigations are underway.
“On the 21st of February Dumisani (Nyathi ( 61) of Thuli Farm in Gwanda sold a bull to Khonzani Sibanda of Lushongwe for slaughter. The two then drove the bull to Lushongwe near the Butchery. The bull broke then broke loose and charged towards Butholezwe Sibanda and Dumisani Nyathi. Dumisani had a short gun and he fired one shot towards the bull which he missed and hit Butholezwe on the chest who died on the spot”. ZBC
