PRESIDENT Mnangagwa today joins more than 40 world leaders at the high-level World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai, as nations explore future-ready governance models in an era defined by rapid technological advancement and shifting geopolitical realities.

Running for three days under the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” the summit has attracted over 150 government delegations and more than 6 000 participants, including heads of state, senior policymakers, business executives, academics and global innovators.

Organisers say discussions will centre on critical areas such as artificial intelligence, education, mobility, sustainability and economic resilience, all aimed at redefining governance systems for the future.

President Mnangagwa arrived in Dubai yesterday morning and was received at Al Maktoum International Airport by UAE Cabinet Member and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan. He was accompanied by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mr Isaac Moyo.

The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Finance and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi, Minister of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera, and Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka, among other senior officials.

According to Prof Murwira, the President has tasked the ministers to participate in thematic sessions aligned with their portfolios in order to advance Zimbabwe’s national development priorities.

Dr Masuka, who won the Best Minister Award at last year’s summit for leading high-impact and sustainable initiatives, is expected to make a presentation during one of the sessions.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Prof Murwira said the President has a tight programme that includes attending the official opening of the summit and holding several bilateral meetings.

“The opening plenary will focus on the broader issue of future governments, which are shaped by geopolitics, technology and human capital,” he said. “Following that, His Excellency will engage in scheduled bilateral meetings. Tomorrow, he will again take part in a future governments’ plenary session alongside other leaders to discuss the future of Africa.”

Prof Murwira said Zimbabwe’s participation at the summit reflects growing economic confidence and renewed international engagement under the Second Republic.

“Zimbabwe is growing economically and in confidence under the leadership of His Excellency President Mnangagwa. We are engaging the world with something to offer, based on peaceful, win-win cooperation in commercial, technical, technological and social spheres,” he said.

He added that the summit provides an important platform for Zimbabwe to position itself within global conversations shaping governance systems of the future, while reinforcing the country’s re-engagement drive.

“The Minister of Tourism will engage in tourism-related discussions, the Minister of Finance on investment matters, the Minister of ICT on artificial intelligence and future technologies, and the Minister of Agriculture will also play a key role, including handing over the chairmanship following his recognition last year,” said Prof Murwira.

The World Governments Summit concludes on Thursday.
