By Staff Reporter

A man from Kariba has died after being attacked and trampled by an elephant on Saturday evening, in yet another tragic incident involving wildlife in the lakeside town.

The incident occurred at around 6pm as the man was walking with a friend. According to reports, the two encountered an elephant, which suddenly charged at them.

The two men reportedly ran in different directions as they tried to escape. The elephant caught up with the deceased and attacked him, leaving him with serious injuries.

His friend managed to get away and later returned with assistance after realising that his companion had been attacked.

The injured man was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but he later died from the injuries sustained during the attack.

Chief Superintendent Clever Maramwidze confirmed the fatal incident.

The latest death comes at a difficult time for Kariba, which has recently been affected by other tragedies, including the deadly Lake Kariba ferry disaster.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers posed by human-wildlife encounters in communities located close to wildlife habitats.

Residents have expressed concern over the growing number of wildlife-related incidents in the area, with calls for authorities to strengthen measures aimed at protecting both communities and wildlife.
