President Emmerson Mnangagwa has paid tribute to late opposition leader Linda Masarira, describing her as a fearless and outspoken politician who championed dialogue, constitutionalism, and national unity in Zimbabwe.
Masarira, leader of the Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) Party, died on Sunday morning, triggering an outpouring of grief and condolences from political leaders, civic groups, and ordinary Zimbabweans across the country.
In his condolence message, President Mnangagwa said Masarira’s passing was a major loss not only to her family, but also to Zimbabwe and women in leadership.
“Her departure is a great loss to her family, to the women of Zimbabwe, and to the nation at large,” said Mnangagwa.
The President extended his sympathies on behalf of the Government, ZANU PF, his family, and the people of Zimbabwe, saying the nation stood in solidarity with the Masarira family during the difficult time.
Mnangagwa praised Masarira for consistently advocating for peaceful engagement and constructive national dialogue, even during politically tense periods.
> “She consistently advocated for dialogue, constitutionalism, and national unity at a time when the country needed sober voices,” he said.
He also acknowledged her role in civic society, media engagement, and political initiatives such as the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), saying she showed that Zimbabweans with differing political views could still work together for the country’s progress.
The President said Masarira’s legacy should inspire more young women to actively participate in politics and national leadership.
> “May the legacy of Cde Masarira inspire others, especially young women, to participate actively and responsibly in the affairs of their country,” he said.
