Maitengwe Weekend Trending Stories: Dombodema Head sneaks out of the country…
At Dombodema, it has always been the norm that whenever the School Head leaves the school, the administration quickly announces who will be acting among the deputy heads. Even before the dust settles, staff members usually already know who is holding the keys and who is signing papers.
But this week things were different.
By Wednesday, only rumours were flying around the school that the Head had quietly sneaked out of the school and possibly out of the country to an unknown location. No official communication was made and no acting Head was announced. The silence itself became the loudest announcement.
As the rumours continued spreading like wildfire at a veld fire competition, some staff members tried to spin the story and convince people that the Head was still around by recycling old videos of him walking around his living quarters.
Unfortunately for the propaganda department, things fell apart during the farewell party of a long serving member of the non-teaching staff where the Head’s absence became very noticeable. One deputy head had to stand in for him, and that is when many finally accepted that indeed the man was nowhere near Dombodema.
Later on, images suddenly resurfaced online showing the Head at another school together with that school’s headmaster. But what made people raise eyebrows was the fact that there was no official envoy accompanying him. The man simply appeared there quietly like someone attending secret peace talks.
Information later emerged that before his mysterious movement, the Head had allegedly been seen inspecting some gold at the school’s storage room. That is when conspiracy theories graduated with distinctions.
Some people immediately began suggesting that the precious minerals could have been taken to the other school for selling. But students are asking questions. If the mission was genuinely for the school, why leave behind the bursar and the School Finance Committee? Since when are gold dealings done like a night prayer meeting?
Meanwhile, the issue of the Head’s extension letter remains hanging like laundry before the rains. The District has still not responded despite the timeline reportedly ending on Monday this week. Sources say the letter will eventually be debated among staff members at the school, although fresh rumours now claim that staff meetings have already been adjourned for two weeks.
At this rate, by the time meetings resume people might need reintroductions.
As always, Yours Truly will keep ears on the ground and eyes everywhere.
Now on a sad note, Yours Truly was deeply hurt to learn of a heartbreaking tragedy that happened in South Africa, Bela Bela, where a 14-year-old boy reportedly witnessed members of his family being killed separately at almost the same spot while trying to cross the road.
According to reports, the boy first lost his father who was hit by a car while crossing the road. The boy then called his mother to the scene, but tragedy had not yet finished its assignment. As the mother, who was carrying a child on her back, also tried to cross the road, she too was hit by another car, resulting in both the woman and the child dying on the spot.
What a painful tragedy. One can only wonder how that young boy will ever heal from such horror. Only God knows.
Now let us move overseas where US President Donald Trump this week left Beijing after a two-day summit claiming that he had struck “fantastic trade deals” that are supposedly great for both America and China, though very few details have actually emerged about what exactly was agreed.
Trump had arrived in China accompanied by several top CEOs from industries including agriculture, aviation, electric vehicles and artificial intelligence chips. Trade was reportedly high on the agenda despite ongoing tensions surrounding the Iran war, and businesses were hoping for key deals together with an extension of the tariff truce expected to expire in November.
The visit itself was full of warm rhetoric and heavy symbolism. Trump received an honour guard, attended a state banquet and was even invited into the exclusive compound where leaders of China’s Communist Party live and work. For two days Beijing rolled out the red carpet so much that one could easily think a wedding was taking place.
Meanwhile, despite all the smiles and handshakes, the Strait of Hormuz remained closed, continuing to send panic through global markets and oil traders.
This has been the trending stories.
