South Africa — A former Boxer Superstores employee is on the run after allegedly gunning down three female managers inside a supermarket in KwaZulu-Natal, reportedly following a workplace dispute over time off.
The shocking incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at a Boxer Superstores outlet at the Atrium shopping mall in eShowe, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
The 33-year-old suspect allegedly entered the store to attend an internal disciplinary hearing before pulling out a firearm and opening fire on the three women.
According to reports by South African media, the suspect allegedly locked the managers inside an office before unleashing a barrage of bullets, killing all three at the scene.
The victims were reportedly the store manager, bakery manager and administration manager.
Preliminary reports suggest that the suspect had been involved in a workplace dispute and was reportedly unhappy about being denied leave.
A report by the Mail & Guardian indicated that the former employee had complained about being denied time off and felt he had been treated unfairly.
The disciplinary hearing was reportedly under way when the situation took a deadly turn.
However, authorities have yet to publicly establish the motive for the killings or confirm all the details surrounding the alleged dispute.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising fresh concerns about workplace violence and the safety of employees during disciplinary proceedings.
Following the shooting, the suspect allegedly fled the scene, prompting KwaZulu-Natal police to launch a manhunt.
The 33-year-old had not been publicly identified by name in the reports reviewed, and police were still searching for him.
Investigators are working to establish the circumstances leading to the killings and trace the suspect's whereabouts.
The killings have sparked renewed debate about workplace grievances, employee welfare and the need for effective ways of resolving disputes before they escalate into violence.
While the reported disagreement over leave has emerged as a possible factor, investigators are yet to establish the precise motive behind the alleged murders.
The suspect remains wanted as police continue their investigation into the deaths of the three managers.
