New Base Station Launched at Maitengwe Border
By Staff Reporter
MAITENGWE – A new telecommunications base station has been launched at Maitengwe Border Post to improve connectivity in the border area and surrounding rural communities.
The facility was launched by Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera during the 2026 World Post Day commemorations held in Bambadzi, Bulilima, on Saturday.
Mavetera said connectivity in the area had been activated in December, crediting telecommunications infrastructure providers for supporting the Government’s digital inclusion drive.
She said expanding network access to rural and border communities was critical to enabling residents to participate in the digital economy and access technology-based services.
The base station is expected to improve communication for residents, businesses and travellers using the Maitengwe border area, while supporting access to online information and digital transactions.
However, the extent of the improvement will depend on network coverage, capacity and reliability in the surrounding communities.
The launch formed part of Zimbabwe’s 2026 World Post Day commemorations, held under the theme “One Postal Network: Infinite Possibilities.”
