HARARE — Zimdancehall musician Kelvin Kusikwenyu, popularly known as Killer T, has been arrested in Harare following allegations that he threatened members of the family of a man who was fatally mauled by dogs in Southerton.
Killer T was reportedly taken to Mabelreign Police Station for questioning after a complaint was lodged over alleged threatening WhatsApp messages sent to members of the bereaved family.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest, although police were still verifying details surrounding the matter.
The arrest comes days after the death of 39-year-old Malcolm Takudzwa Muzavazi, who was attacked by four dogs in Southerton on September 24.
Police said the dogs were being kept at a car sale and were under the control of a security guard. The animals reportedly escaped after being released from their kennels during feeding and attacked Muzavazi along a footpath.
Muzavazi was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The fatal attack has already led to the arrest of several people linked to the premises where the dogs were kept.
Car sale co-owners Gilbert Rumbwere and Itai Tamirepi, together with security guard Mannex Svova, were arrested in connection with the case.
Rumbwere has since appeared before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court facing a culpable homicide charge. The State alleges that the premises were inadequately secured, allowing the dogs to escape and attack Muzavazi.
However, Killer T's arrest is **not linked to an allegation that he caused or participated in Muzavazi's death**.
Instead, the musician is being investigated over alleged threats and communications directed at members of the deceased's family.
Reports circulating online have referred to alleged voice notes containing insults and threats, while reports have also alleged that threatening messages were sent through WhatsApp. Police have not publicly released the alleged messages or provided a detailed account of their contents.
It remains unclear what allegedly prompted the communications or what connection Killer T has to the people involved in the dog attack case.
Police investigations are continuing.
Killer T remains innocent unless and until proven guilty in court, and his arrest does not amount to a conviction.
Authorities are expected to determine whether the evidence gathered during investigations is sufficient for the matter to proceed to court.
