Parties back Geo Pomona model for Bulawayo waste crisis
By Staff Reporter
Political parties have reached common ground on adopting the Geo Pomona waste management model in Bulawayo as pressure mounts for urgent action at the troubled Ngozi Mine landfill.
The landfill has been plagued by recurring fires, smoke and poor waste disposal, affecting communities including Cowdray Park, Emakhandeni and Luveve.
Representatives from both ruling-party affiliates and the opposition have backed the model, citing its potential to improve waste management, address environmental concerns and create jobs.
The Bulawayo City Council has also authorised engagement with Geo Pomona as authorities seek a long-term solution to the city's waste crisis.
However, residents' and civil society groups have called for transparency and compliance with procurement laws before any long-term agreement is concluded.
