Father Accused Of Incest Found Dead After Violent Clash With Son

A 50-year-old man from Parowa Village in Manicaland, who was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with his 20-year-old daughter, was found dead days after allegedly being assaulted by his son over the accusations.

Benny Chimhuya, also known as Beniza, was found hanging from a tree near the Musatya River earlier this month.

The circumstances surrounding his death followed a family dispute over allegations that he had been involved in relationships with his daughters.

According to his sister, Dorcas Chimhuya-Mangwandi, the allegations had caused tension within the family for several years.

She alleged that one of Chimhuya's daughters had been living with him at Bezeley Bridge in circumstances the family regarded as resembling a husband-and-wife relationship.

The allegations were eventually brought before Chief Marange's community court after one of the daughters reportedly became pregnant.

Chimhuya denied the allegations.

His sister said he maintained that he had only been teaching his daughter how to drive and argued that there was no direct evidence proving the allegations.

The dispute escalated when Chimhuya's son, Wish, confronted him over the allegations.

According to Chimhuya-Mangwandi, a violent confrontation followed, during which Wish allegedly assaulted his father and demanded answers over claims that he was abusing his sisters.

Wish was arrested over the alleged assault, while Chimhuya was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for treatment.

He was reportedly discharged the following day, around the same time his son was released from police custody.

Chimhuya died later that evening, according to his sister.

Chief Marange confirmed that a case involving alleged incest, locally referred to as *makunakuna*, had been pending before his court.

However, he said he had not yet received official notification of Chimhuya's death.

Police and relevant authorities had not, at the time of reporting, publicly released further details on the circumstances surrounding the death.
