Murewa CBZ ATM Blown Up in Explosive Robbery, Robbers Flee With US$30,000

MUREWA, Zimbabwe — Armed robbers allegedly used explosives to blast open a CBZ Bank ATM in Murewa in the early hours of Tuesday, making off with about US$30,000 and 15,000 ZiG.

The robbery reportedly occurred shortly after 2am at the CBZ Bank branch in Murewa, Mashonaland East Province.

According to reports by ZBC News, five suspects are believed to have been involved in the operation.

Two of the suspects allegedly confronted and attacked a security guard at the CBZ premises, while the other three moved towards neighbouring businesses, including CABS Bank and Teachers Hardware.

Security guards at the nearby premises reportedly managed to escape unharmed.

The suspects subsequently targeted the CBZ ATM, allegedly using explosives to force it open and gain access to the cash inside.

The robbers reportedly escaped with approximately **US$30,000 and 15,000 ZiG**.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had not issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication.

Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robbery and work to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the use of explosives in ATM and bank robberies, which can pose serious risks to security personnel, residents and surrounding businesses.
