THE MYSTERIES OF LIFE: Struck by Lightning… and Shown Heaven?

By Desmond Nleya
Are you afraid of dying? Ever wondered what truly happens when a person takes their final breath?
In today’s edition of The Mysterious of Life, we unpack a story so strange, so profound, that it forces us to reconsider everything we think we know about life, death, and whatever lies beyond.
This is the extraordinary journey of a woman who believes she died—and returned with a message.

On a stormy Houston morning in 1988, Elizabeth Krohn stepped out of her car, holding her young son’s hand, preparing for a quiet service at the synagogue. She was an ordinary mother living an ordinary life.
But all of that changed the moment lightning found her umbrella.
She remembers adjusting it, thinking, “This is stupid.”
When she opened her eyes, she was shocked to find herself looking down at her own body lying motionless on the wet pavement.
That was the moment she realised: she had died.

What came next was something she still struggles to describe.
A presence—warm, intelligent, alive—drew her in. It wasn’t just light; it felt like a being. She followed it.
It led her to what she calls “the garden.”
Not a garden of roses or trees—but of perfection itself. A realm made of colours no human language can name, sounds that felt like comfort, and peace that wrapped around her like a blanket.
There, she sat on a bench with a figure who spoke with the voice of her grandfather, who had died the year before.
Through him, she felt she was speaking to God. Time didn’t exist. Space didn’t matter. Everything made sense.

In that place of pure peace, a path appeared before her—glowing, curved, leading toward mountains in the distance.
She understood instantly: this was the road to staying forever.
But the voice beside her gave her a choice.
“You have more to do.
You will have a third child—
a girl.
She has already chosen you.”
That sentence changed everything.
With purpose pulling her back, she returned.
Back to the Rain—and to Pain
Elizabeth opened her eyes to a crowd rushing toward her. Her body was burnt, trembling, struggling to breathe.
The miracle of her survival was followed by weeks of pain, and months of learning to walk properly again.
For a long time, she didn’t dare speak about what she saw.
Some dismissed her. Some laughed.
Her mother believed her; her husband doubted her.
But life moved forward.
And nine years later—exactly as she was told—she gave birth to a daughter.

Elizabeth Krohn says the lightning didn’t just strike her body—it rewired her soul.
“My near-death experience changed how I see life, death, religion… everything,” she says. “When you know death is not the end, you don’t fear it. Consciousness survives. We survive.”
Today, she still hopes to watch her granddaughter grow, to witness milestones, to live a full life.
But she is no longer afraid of death.
Because she believes she has already seen what comes after it.
And for her, what waits beyond the veil is not darkness…
but home.
